It’s no secret that the Summer is over. Beach days and long evenings are done. However, that doesn’t mean you have to pack up and prepare for the winter nights. What’s better than sweater weather and watching the leaves change colors right in front of your eyes? There are still plenty of fun activities for you and your senior loved one to do in the Fall season. Here are some great ideas to keep your senior active in October!
The summer heat is fading and apple season is in full swing. Do some research about local apple farms and take your senior loved one on a trip! It’s a great activity to get everyone out of the house and enjoying that crisp October air, and hopefully, by the end of the day, you and your senior will have some crisp apples in your basket! However, it doesn’t have to end there. Use those fresh apples that you just picked to make a pie, fritter, or turnovers.
Go See a High School Football Game
This is another great activity you and your senior loved one can do together. The high school setting is a nostalgic one that can invoke positive past memories. However, just be weary of the temperature. If the weather calls for a cold evening, dress appropriately. Make sure you bring your heavy coat, high socks, and warm gloves.
There’s nothing better than getting a great aerobic exercise while exploring the beautiful Fall foliage. Just like apple picking, do some research and find out if there are any nature paths that are great for a quick (or long) walk that you and your senior loved one can enjoy together. It’s a great way to get a nice little workout in and spend time with your senior. Keep your senior’s mind engaged by inquiring about their well-being or asking about their day-to-day activities.
Of course, these are just three examples of activities you can do with a senior in the Fall season. There are plenty of other options, but most importantly, engage with your loved one. This isn’t just an opportunity to get them out of the house. This is an opportunity to genuinely take interest in their life and make them feel truly loved!
