What does Go for Broke Day celebrate, you ask? Well, April 5th is the perfect day to get out there and give it all you’ve got! Do you play the lottery? Then Go for Broke Day is the day you should play that special set of numbers you found on a fortune cookie. Have a secret crush on someone? Then Go for Broke Day is a great day to let your feelings be known. Take a chance; start that new job or project you’ve been putting off for the last year. Today is the day you should put all excuses aside and lay it on the line. It’s the day to stop playing it safe and let loose.

 

  • April 9th is Winston Churchill Day

While you may think that this date would be Mr. Churchill’s birthdate, it’s actually the date that he was made an honorary United States citizen. On April 9th, 1963, Winston Churchill was officially named the very first honorary U.S. citizen. Winston Churchill was of valiant assistance to the United States military and Allied forces during World War II, along with being one of the most accomplished Prime Minister’s that Great Brittan has ever seen. A law was drafted and passed by the United States Senate, awarding honorary citizenship to Churchill for his life’s contributions. Sounds almost too good to be true, doesn’t it? A whole day devoted to honoring one of the most popular board games of all-time! Scrabble was created in 1938 by a man named Alfred Mosher Butts and was later produced and distributed by the company Hasbro. People of all ages love playing Scrabble! It challenges your mind, keeps you active and can even help you convince your opponent that you invented a couple new words they’ve never heard of! The very best way to celebrate Scrabble day is to grab a couple family members or friends, sit around the kitchen table with some snacks and get down to business! You’ll be amazed how much fun everyone will have and who knows…Scrabble Day could become one of your favorite family traditions for years to come.

April may generally be known as a rainy 30-day stretch that prepares the flowers and lawns to spring forth with great color and beauty, but it is also a month of fun celebration and sharing.
