No matter how old you may be, everyone needs some dating advice every now and then. If you have some close friends who are currently in the dating scene, you may be able to pick their brains for some good dating guidance. But for the rest of us out there that may be too nervous or shy, the following dating tips could help you out as you get back into dating!

  • Try to remember this: It’s all about who you are now, not who you were in the past. This is a vital tip for seniors who are dating, as many older people often get into the habit of identifying themselves with their past. For example, if you were married for 40 years, if can be really difficult to go on a date without feeling like you are cheating on your ex-spouse. While all of your life’s events up to this point have each played a part in who you are today, it is actually the you today that your date is interested in getting to know. Try saving your life story and family details for later dates when you know things are getting serious. On the first several dates, try to focus on simply having fun and being comfortable in your own skin.
  • When you are with the right person, going anywhere can be fun. This dating tip is timeless for people of all ages. Seniors should try not to become bogged down trying to think of new, fun and exciting date destinations each time you go out. When the details become cumbersome, you lose track of the important parts or moments of the date. You are going out with someone because there is a connection there or some kind of spark! It does not matter where you go if the chemistry is already present; you will have a good time no matter where you go as long as you enjoy the company.
  • You are never too old to take pride in looking your best. While this is also a timeless dating tip, it is even more important for seniors who are dating. No matter what your age, it is vital to take the time and look your best while out on a date. Seniors can sometimes feel like they are overdoing it by purchasing a new outfit for a date, but in reality, it is a wonderful idea. Everyone feels more confident and independent when they look nice. Your date will be flattered that you cared enough about the date to look your very best.

So get out there, be yourself and remember to have fun!
