National Senior Health and Fitness Day falls on Wednesday, May 28, is 2014. The celebration is a nationwide health and fitness event for older adults. 2014 This year’s event will mark the 21st year of the celebration. Organizers estimate more than 100,000 older adults will participate in some form, with local events being held across the country.
Large numbers of seniors and/or senior caregivers are expected to participate in this year’s National Senior Health and Fitness Day. Always scheduled for the last Wednesday in the month of May, National Senior Health & Fitness Day is now the nation’s largest annual health promotion event for older adults.
Celebrating a Milestone
The government labels on food packaging are commonplace today, but consumers weren’t able to make informed food choices before labels became mandatory. Just 20 years ago, the government unveiled their Nutrition Facts label. The content ingredients, however, allowed consumers to make informed food choices.
The FDA is now proposing a nationwide upgrade to the food labels. Their ultimate goal is to ensure the public has an understanding of food and nutrition science. Additionally, the FDA will provide reviews of label changes and management details reflecting added sugars, new serving size requirements and a new website that helps seniors detail eating habits. The content will also be revised to a more reader-friendly format.
