Many seniors often associate old age with nursing homes, assisted or residential living, a loss of independence and chronic illness. While they associate these things with old age, it is not, in fact, how they actually view themselves. In fact, there are large numbers of older adults, especially those that are healthy and active, who actually perceive themselves to be around 75 to 80 percent of their actual age. This type of thinking drives seniors to begin claiming to be an age much less than their actual age, rather than claiming their true age. In essence, seniors deny their true chronological age for one that others may perceive as more youthful. These actions raise the question, how do senior citizens actually view themselves and their healthcare choices? How does this affect their self-esteem levels and compliance with medical treatment recommendations? At some point, we all encounter senior citizens who would benefit from certain medical services or products. For example, these medical services/products might improve the senior’s quality of life or help to reduce the risk of developing a disease. Despite the obvious benefits, seniors can meet our recommendations with a high level of resistance. This resistance often results in a general sense of frustration and confusion.


The key to helping our senior clients to accept these medical services and products lies in understanding the root cause of their resistance. We must learn to have honest and robust discussions with senior clients, which can ultimately lead to increased acceptance on their part.

At the end of this webinar, attendees will have a greater appreciation and deeper understanding of the following:
