LivHOME, founded in 1999, has grown to become one of the nation's largest providers of professionally led at-home care for seniors. Its mission is to enable older adults to remain in their homes for as long as possible.
The company’s focus on providing the highest-quality at-home care began with its founders, Mike Nicholson and Steve Barlam. Their passion and compassion continue to guide LivHOME today.
Nicholson, LivHOME’s Chairman and CEO, found his calling through a debilitating accident that occurred when he was a young man in his 20s. He was forced to learn to walk all over again. His recovery took five years.
During that time, Nicholson experienced good and bad healthcare and lived off disability insurance. This experience would later translate into his ability to empathize with clients and understand the importance of providing a living wage for employees. Nicholson went on from this accident to a successful 25-plus-year career in the staffing and homecare industry, culminating in the founding of LivHOME.
A recognized leader in the field of geriatric care management, Steve Barlam, MSW, LCSW, CMC, made his mark with the founding of a premier care management company in 1989. He quickly built a strong reputation in the Los Angeles area for offering the highest-quality care, and brought this experience to the table nine years later when he founded LivHOME with Nicholson.
Barlam serves as LivHOME’s Chief Professional Officer and is also a past President of the National Association for Professional Geriatric Care Managers (NAPGCM). He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the National Academy of Certified Care Managers (NACCM), helping to advance the profession of Care Management
LivHOME, based in Los Angeles, today delivers the highest quality at-home care throughout California as well as in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Texas and Virginia. The company’s goal remains the same as when Nicholson and Barlam envisioned it a decade ago: delivering the highest-quality care, one client and one family at a time.
