Mary Beth Hardy, our Midwest regional director, has a story in the June issue of Advance for Long-Term Care Management about LivHOME’s work with The Sisters of the Living Word in Chicago.
You can read the story here.
In her article, Mary Beth begins by outlining the challenges facing the sisters when we first started working with them. She describes the program we developed with the sisters. And she explains how after 5 years, the sisters have become more active, are having fewer ER visits and falls, and feel more confident in their understanding of the health-care process.
This work with the sisters underscores the skills and approach we bring to the table in any client situation.

I wanted to take a moment to highlight the efforts of our LivHOME staff as Hurricane Ike hit the Texas coast recently.
Our Caregivers in the Houston area were focused on the well-being of our clients early on as the storm tracked toward Texas. They left their own homes to stay with clients, helped evacuate our senior clients to hotels when necessary, and maintained open lines of communication despite spotty service at best. Care Managers utilized their counseling skills to help clients and their families cope with the stress and strain of the situation.
Caregivers showed their dedication and concern for clients by staying by their side during the emergency, in many cases in homes without electricity or water. In one case, a Caregiver not only helped a client seek shelter in a local hotel — but also assisted the client’s grown daughter, dog, and bird.
I’m proud to report that our staff and clients all escaped the hurricane safe and sound. While we train for these situations and have been through them before, I’m always struck by the great professionalism and resourcefulness our staff exhibits when the going gets really tough.
